Sortbat and VITO launch Xbat.ai to revolutionize battery sorting

Cresco acted as lead legal counsel in the formation of Xbat.ai, a joint venture between SORTBAT, a European leader in battery sorting, and VITO, the Flemish Institute for Technological Research.

Xbat.ai introduces a world-first AI-powered X-ray sorting system. The technology enables fast, cost-effective and safe sorting of all types of household batteries, from coin cells to complex packs, regardless of shape, size or chemical composition.

By setting a new global standard for battery recycling, Xbat.ai marks a major step forward for circular economy and cleantech innovation in Europe. The platform is also poised to expand into other high-tech applications across the battery and recycling value chain.
