Axel Desmet specializes in technology, intellectual property and commercial law. His practice focuses on complex technology contracts and strategic commercial arrangements, including software and SaaS agreements, licensing, R&D collaborations, strategic partnerships and other technology driven business models.
He also advises on digital regulation, including data protection, AI and cybersecurity, and regularly assists clients and investors with the IP, technology and commercial aspects of acquisitions, investments and other corporate transactions.
Axel Desmet obtained his law degree from KU Leuven, with a focus on private and economic law, and subsequently obtained an LL.M. in Law & Technology from Tilburg University.
Before joining Cresco, Axel worked in legal technology and contract automation, and gained experience at several law firms.
Axel was part of the founding team of Tectonic (formerly Slush’D), one of Belgium’s leading startup events. He currently serves on the supervisory board of NEXT Leuven and is a member of the general assembly of Pleegzorg West Vlaanderen.
Axel is also actively involved with the Antwerp Bar, where he serves as Trainee Lawyer Coordinator and as Trainee Lawyer Representative on the Traineeship Committee.
